Change for FiveHundred was founded in 2017 by Marcus Byrd-Ray Sr. in Richmond, California.
The organization was created to help address barriers facing young people and families through community action, mentorship, education, athletics, violence prevention, personal development and direct access to resources.
Our work has included youth mentorship, school-supply support, backpack giveaways, family and resource events, athletics initiatives and community-based programming. We continue developing new models that create longer-term opportunities.
Our roots are in Richmond and North Richmond, with current reach into West Contra Costa County, Oakland and surrounding Bay Area communities.
Founded in 2017 by Marcus Byrd-Ray Sr., Change For FiveHundred is dedicated to mentoring and motivating youth aged 6-17, especially in marginalized neighborhoods like North Richmond. Inspired by personal experience and community efforts such as Alive & Free Omega Boys Club, we aim to break cycles of violence and poverty through early intervention and support.
